This graphic design project was the front and back design for t-shirts that were made for the African American & African Studies majors at University of California, Davis. These symbols from Ghana, W. Africa are collectively called “Adinkra,” and each represents an African proverb or concept.
I chose the symbols for the meanings they represented and that the faculty wanted to encourage in the students. I also designed it to be white letters on a black background to keep the design as simple as possible and to keep down the production costs. The typefaces are “Adam” and “Brandon Grotesque.”
