I created this mockup for a supernatural thriller movie in my Design Layout class. Based on the classic murder mystery, especially those of the 1940s and 50s, this was my favorite projects created for the class. We were given the design brief of producing a mockup for a website designed to showcase our new movie. We were to try to evoke a particular mood through the use of color, typography, and imagery while making sure to include elements that would provide all the most important information a user might want when visiting a website designed to promote a movie.
For that reason I included links to social media, a YouTube frame for displaying the trailer of the film, and also a link to Fandango so users could actually purchase their tickets online.
I learned how to make a mood board for this project, which I created before actually sketching out the design of my movie poster. You can see the mood board and the elements that inspired the finished product. More than any other single element that I collected in researching the project, the movie poster for “Night of the Hunter” and “The House on Telegraph Hill” were my biggest inspirations.
